What the Bible says about Hell

What The Bible Says About Hell
Revelation 20:11-14

People mistakenly doubt hell

Every Sunday you hear something that matters for all eternity. (surgeons and lawyers)

Ty Cobb, Lou Garrick, Babe Ruth - I've got all the great players. But I have all the empires.

Extent of suffering does not negate it. Iceland volcano

The Bible makes it clear there is a hell

The Bible is convinced of hell, especially Jesus.  If no hell - book of myths, Jesus a misguided soul.

The most striking statements concerning hell came from the one who died so we wouldn't have to go

Matthew 25:31-34; 41,46 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.  He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

The New Testament does not hold out one single ray of hope for those who die without Christ.

Hell serves a purpose (accountability and effects of sin)

Accountable. Miroslav Volf- How do you not live your life in vengeance mode? “I can be non-violent in this life, because God is going to sort it out in the next life.”

Revelation 20:11-14 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them.  And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. (born once died twice, born twice die once)

Inward spiritual sin causes outward bodily pain. Where there is sin there is suffering

Living to 90 with the most plush life isn’t worth it, if you have to go to hell for five minutes after.

Hell demonstrates what Jesus saved us from (band returns here)

Impressive skills vs turning people to God. “That is really important.”

Everyone in our church and neighborhood will soon be in heaven or hell. I wish we could easily persuade them. We fear being blamed for not telling them.
