THE LORD IS NEAR & ANXIETY IS GONE

Philippians 4:4-7

WE HAVE ANXIETY PROBLEM

The story of a couple who heard a noise downstairs. The husband got up, and went downstairs to find out what the noise was…

The story of a guy who decided to hire someone to worry for him…

Since 1994 anxiety disorders have jumped more than 1,200%

Psychologist Robert Leahy, said the average high school kid today has the same level of anxiety as an average psychiatric patient in the early 1950s

GOD IS GUARDING YOUR HEART AND MIND

Paul is writing this from a prison cell. And when he uses the word, “guard,” he is referring to soldiers who are on guard duty, and he realizes that he has a peace from God who is truly guarding him

Anxiety comes from distance, prayer is the antidote.

Check your mindset if it godly or worldly. When you go to a restaurant that you could not afford to go to, but somebody takes you there, what are you thinking about?

When someone mocks you because of your appearance, then you look in the mirror and say, “no wonder”. That’s saying that the here and now, the physical, the image, is all that matters.

Philippians 4:4-7

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

YOUR MINDSET MATTERS

A story about George who wrote a letter: Dear God, I hereby resign as general manager of the universe, signed George. And wonder of wonders, God accepted my resignation.

Karl Barth once called joy a “continual defiant ‘Nevertheless’”

The Hiding Place - when you look at the world you will be distressed; when you look within you will be depressed; but if you look at God you will be at rest

VISION

The Lord doesn't say rejoice in your finances, promotion, or if you got into the school you wanted”. Rejoice in the Lord. Why? Because if you rejoice in a “WHAT,” you will always want more and will come to an end. But when you rejoice in “WHO”, you will never stop rejoicing.

David Livingstone “What sustained you all those years in Africa with the exploration, medical work, anti slavery and evangelism work?” He said, “One promise in the Bible, ‘and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.’”

Jonathon Kozol - Amazing Grace about materially poor people in the Bronx. 4th stanza- “Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come. ‘Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.
