Pentecost Sunday

Pentecost Sunday

Pentecost Sunday!

Pentecost means 50

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Acts 2:1-4

And unbelievably when Jesus was leaving earth, he said its actually a GOOD thing [John 16:7]

On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.
Acts 1:4

For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 1:5

7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive POWER when the Holy Spirit comes on you;

Where we need the POWER to overcome what we’re trying to overcome.

Where we need the POWER to endure, even though we want to give up.

Where  we need the POWER to understand what we cannot fully grasp on our own.

and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1:8

Sin at its heart convinces us that we can do it by ourselves. That we really don’t need God.

2 mindset shifts for us.

1) Wait

150 people receiving the Holy Spirit are responsible for you and I watching this today.

2) Humility

Elisha said, “Get a bow and some arrows,” and he did so.
2 Kings 13:15

16 “Take the bow in your hands,” he said to the king of Israel. When he had taken it, Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands.

17 “Open the east window,” he said, and he opened it. “Shoot!” Elisha said, and he shot. “The Lord’s arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Aram!” Elisha declared. “You will completely destroy the Arameans at Aphek.”

18 Then he said, “Take the arrows,” and the king took them. Elisha told him, “Strike the ground.” He struck it three times and stopped. 19 The man of God was angry with him and said, “You should have struck the ground five or six times;then you would have defeated Aram and completely destroyed it. But now you will defeat it only three times.”

Elisha died and was buried.
