PROBLEM
- The sermon on the mount is about living for the Kingdom of God. Not everyone wants to. The choice is between living for self or living for God.
GOD
Matthew 6:19-24 19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
- Treasure – what is it and how do we accumulate it?
- Eyes – what we set our eyes on gets into our souls. When the eye focuses on something of value or evil, it becomes the conduit that fills the heart with what has been focused upon.
- It’s either/or. If you say you live for the kingdom but act in self-centered ways, you are not living for the kingdom.
APPLICATION
- God is our financial source – he provides everything.
- Be aware of deceiving needs-LP- if we live by our needs- we judge God
- God and things- Money can buy a bed, but it can’t buy you sleep…
- Generosity- When we give money to others, it is money God has given you to give to them.
VISION
- How can my job help the kingdom of God? How can my relationship help the kingdom of God? How can my friendships, how can my volunteering, how can my prayers, how can my money?
Revelation 14:13 Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.”
