This sermon – John 14
- What does it mean to have a relationship with Jesus?
- What does it mean to continue his life on earth?
- How will this be possible for me?
What does it mean to have a relationship with Jesus?
John 14:2-3 “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
Just as heaven is not about big houses but about being with Jesus, so too is being with Jesus today always the solution. With Jesus, your solution is not what you are going to do, your solution is literally in your living in Jesus.
I AM THE WAY
John 14:6 – ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’
By having an increasing and constant awareness of the presence of Jesus. Much like your awareness of someone you are physically with, so we are to be communicating and interacting with the very real and alive Jesus. As much as if Jesus were with us physically.
What can you do to engage and communicate with Jesus more?
How is that possible? How can Jesus be with each person on earth?
JESUS DISTRIBUTED – What does it mean to continue his life on earth?
Our mission is not to merely repeat the works of Jesus; we are here to continue the presence of Jesus on earth.
John 14:12 “whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these.”
Just as Jesus called his first disciples 2,000 years ago, he is calling you today to leave everything and follow him. Will you leave “the things of this world” to live in and for Jesus?
Will you leave “the things of this world” to live in and for Jesus?
How will this be possible for me? HOLY SPIRIT
John 14:18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.”
Someone might say, how will I know what to do or remember what Jesus says?
John 14:26 “…the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
With the help of the Holy Spirit, we will sustain the miraculous works of Jesus, we will have intimacy with God in prayer, and we will recall God’s word with conviction.
14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
