God Wants To Answer Your Prayers

God Wants To Answer Your Prayers

PROBLEM – Why we don’t pray and why we should

  • What motivates us to pray? Trouble. Fears: God’s not going to do it. Wonder if God doesn’t want what I want? God wants your best, can you trust him? Is there something you want so bad but you know God doesn’t want that for you?
  • Psalm 88 asks, is God praised for the bad things? Answers to prayer glorify God.

GODGod has a purpose for us and he is ready to fulfill it.

2 Thessalonians 1:10-12 (NIV)
We constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

APPLICATION – As you live to glorify God, you will see an increasing amount of your prayers answered.

  • Prayer is a rebellion against the status quo. It is the rejection of every agenda, every scheme, every opinion that clashes with the will of God.
  • We are to pray in the day of trouble. When we do, God will answer, lost people will be saved. prodigals will come home, spouses, hearts will be soft, and marriages will be transformed, finances will be provided, sicknesses will be healed, addictions will be broken, depression will be lifted, dictators and empires will crumble, darkness will get pushed back, the church will advance. If we just choose not to settle for the status quo.
  • John 14:14 You can ask for anything according to his will. Do you know what that means? It means cancer is not in control. Rulers are not in control. Death is not in control.
  • Don’t ask for the easy stuff, ask for the hard stuff. To be a person of character, to be a person who is fully surrendered to the Holy Spirit. That your life would fulfill God’s purpose for you, that your life will bear spiritual fruit no matter what vocation you have.

VISION – Pray for God to be glorified in your world.

  • God wants to change it and he will do it in partnership with you.  Will you let him? That’s the question of a lifetime. Lord, whatever it takes. Do you know what’s worse than being born in a horrible place? Dying in a horrible place.

Isaiah 61
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
    instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
    instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
    a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.
They will rebuild the ancient ruins
    and restore the places long devastated;
they will renew the ruined cities
that have been devastated for generations
