Finding Identity After a Crisis

Finding Identity After a Crisis

Crisis Reveals you

Crisis reveals you. And it can reset you.

It’s hard to go back to normal when normal disappeared.

Some of the things you lost in the disruption aren’t worth keeping.

Other things are worth building your life on.

Cultural Narrative Storyline:
-You were born good.
-Something happened, and your inner self was wounded.
-To find your true self is your life’s purpose and the ultimate pathway to true happiness, satisfaction and pleasure.
-Any form of difficulty, commitment, push back or restriction is a threat to finding who you’re meant to be and your ultimate fulfillment.
-Throw off all limits and rise against any oppression,
-Result: Recognition, self-fulflilment, celebrity.

It’s not a bad story, if it didn’t lead to hopelessness.

“I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that it’s not the answer.”
-Jim Carrey

“Only when the tide goes out do you discover who’s been swimming without shorts.”
-Warren Buffet

because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.  And hope does not put us to shame
Romans 5:4-5

And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
Romans 5:5

You see, at just the right time when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
Romans 5:6

Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:7-8
