Our purpose is on the other side of our fear

The most common command in the entire Bible is: DO NOT FEAR!

Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

To overcome fear – you have to understand THE MISSION OF FEAR… Because FEAR DOESN’T COME TO PLAY!!!

Let’s look at a story in the Bible in order to get a better picture of this mission – His name is GIDEON.

JUDGES 6:11 – The angel of the LORD came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites.

SEE – Gideon is dealing with fear in a way that all of us can relate: HE’S HIDING IN A HOLE! – HE BECAME INVISIBLE

The Mission of Fear is – TO CONSUME YOU… EVERY PART OF YOU IN ORDER TO PARALYZE YOU FROM YOUR PURPOSE! – When your life is consumed with FEAR – It can’t be FILLED WITH GOD!! – FEAR WILL KEEP YOU FROM YOUR PURPOSE! (Keeps you away from people)

JUDGES 6:12-13: (angel shows up to Gideon) – When the angel of the LORD appeared to Gideon, he said, “The LORD is with you, mighty warrior.” [A STATEMENT OF FAITH: “I see where you are, BUT let me tell you WHO you are] “But sir,” Gideon replied, “if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our fathers told us about when they said, ‘Did not the LORD bring us up out of Egypt?’ But now the LORD has abandoned us and put us into the hand of Midian.”

3 responses from fear:

1. ANGER –

Way too often we are expressing anger from a deep fear we just can’t let go of.

Behind the anger is a fear that is consuming our lives…

JUDGES 6:14-15 – The LORD turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. [HERE’S THE SECOND STATEMENT OF FAITH] – Am I not sending you?” “But Lord,” Gideon asked, “how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”

God gives Gideon another STATEMENT OF FAITH – “…AM I NOT SENDING YOU?”

I recently read a study that said 60-70% of all women deal with this thought:

“I’M NOT ______________ ENOUGH” … Pretty, Good, Tall, Attractive, Skinny

MEN – We deal with the thought: Do I have what it takes?”

JUDGES 6:16-18 – The LORD answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites together.” Gideon replied, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, give me a sign that it is really you talking to me. Please do not go away until I come back and bring my offering and set it before you.” And the LORD said, “I will wait until you return.”

When fear really settles in… We feel like we always have to be in control!

A lot of this control is fueled by something that has happened in the past.

The enemy will use fear to keep you out of your purpose – AND – This is the tension of our lives!!!
